Hilton Worldwide has recorded modest pipeline growth, with a quarter on quarter increase of 30 projects.

At the end of Q3 2022, the hotel group had more than 2,810 sites on the slate, 1% up on Q2’s total of 2,780.

Global progress

The same percentage increase was reflected in room count, with the total standing at 416,000 rooms as of 30 September, compared to 413,000 keys on 30 June.

Developments are scheduled throughout 112 countries and territories, including 29 countries and territories where Hilton does not currently have any existing hotels.

40% expansion

Of the rooms in the pipeline, 204,200 were under construction and 242,600 keys were located outside Hilton’s home US market.

With Hilton’s total system standing at 7,061 hotels, representing more than 1.1 million rooms, the pipeline equates to 40% of the group’s current footprint by site and 37% by key.

Quarterly additions

The group approved 19,900 new rooms for development during the third quarter. Throughout this period, Hilton opened 80 new hotels, contributing 12,900 additional rooms to the company’s system and achieved net unit growth of 12,100 rooms.

Notable milestones included opening the 25,000th room under the Curio Collection by Hilton brand and the 600th Hilton Hotels & Resorts property. Furthermore, Hilton continued to expand its luxury portfolio with the opening of Waldorf Astoria Kuwait, the brand’s first property in the country.

Ones to watch

The TOPHOTELPROJECTS database presently contains details of 759 high end Hilton developments. Major projects include Waldorf Astoria Doha West Bay, a 43 storey tower taking shape in the Qatari capital which will bring 336 keys online in Q3 2023.

Another high profile international site is Maison Heler Metz a Curio by Hilton Collection hotel in Metz, France – the first European hotel created and developed from the ground up by renowned designer, Philippe Starck. The 119-room property will comprise a recreation of an 18th century traditional Alsatian home set atop an eight-storey monolithic building. Delivery is scheduled for Q1 2024.
